Hello, welcome to our web-site. We enjoy working with local Appalacian hardwoods with an occasional exotic wood for accents. Most of my furniture includes smaller tables, benches and boxes. My turnings vary in size from 30 inch diameters to   My wife, Susan has recently started creating unique boxes from my scraps....really classy.

Wood is a really great media. Mother Nature always has a surprise waiting in every tree. Most of these surprises are pleasant: spectacular figuring, subtle color changes and interesting knots. There are also challenges: splits, voids and nasty knots.

I have been working and playing with wood nearly all my life. I served my first apprenticeship in my Dad’s shop ..  straightening nails. He always kept a bucket of bent up old nails to keep me entertained. Humble beginnings indeed!

For the last twenty-five years, I've been designing and crafting boxes and furniture. My designs are simple, letting the wood and joinery have their voice. I draw on simpler styles:   Shaker's delicate functionality and Asia's graceful curves. Heavier Lines of the Arts & Crafts movement also find their place in some pieces.

I prefer working with local cherry. My favorite finish is hand rubbed oil followed by a final wax.  Oil finishes are warm and easy to maintain with wax or another coat of oil.
