Monster Lathe

This is one of those homemade lathes. It is not portable. The base is poured concrete, about 900 pounds.

The tool rest is supported by a trailer tongue jack. Once you get the rest where you want it, you crank down the foot.

The tail stock ways are offset from the headstock to allow you to stand directly in front of the work. It’s a lot easier on the back. Swing is also improved (30 inch diameter)

For power I used a 2 HP, 3 phase motor, 1200 RPM. Speed is adjustable through a variable frequency drive unit with 220volt, 1 phase input.
